O-Week is in full swing with pōwhiri, as well as events across Mt Albert and Waitakere campuses.
Unitec kaimahi and support services have been fantastic in managing the influx of students and increased foot traffic, attributed to greater efficiency at all orientation and enrolment touch points.
Unitec Student Central Manager, Jeffrey Wu has been right in the thick of it with his Student Support team and he credits new systems in place for making their jobs easier.
“It is definitely a warm feeling to see the campus flooded with students full of excitement and energy again,” says Jeff.
“Student Central usually gets pretty busy starting in January, but it hasn’t been overwhelmingly wild this year. It’s because we now have greater connections with the schools and service teams, so we all work together collectively to resolve issues and concerns efficiently while maintaining that high level of service delivery.”
According to Mr Wu, 838 Student IDs were issued at Student Central on the first two days of the Semester, one hundred more than for the same period in 2024.
Over at the Waitakere campus, Head of School, Healthcare and Social Practice, Linda Aumua says the campus has been “buzzing” with activity.
“Our students were welcomed with a pōwhiri at Mt Albert campus, programmes have supported students with a mihi whakatau at Waitākere, and classes have begun,” she explains.
“With just over 800 students from Healthcare and Social Practice and Bridgepoint on campus its busy, loud, exciting, a little nervousness but students are ready for 2025.”
Pacific librarian, Sana Saleem says her team have been busy all week introducing the library spaces to new and returning students.
“The library tours are an important part of onboarding at the start of the semester so that students know how to access the range of services and resources available at both libraries at Mt Albert and Waitakere campuses,” she remarks. “From next week, students should be all settling in and it will be business as usual.”
Thanks to everyone who is working hard to make our new learners feel right at home.
