Unitec-Te Pūkenga is proud to have once again sponsored the Diversity stage at ASB Polyfest 2023. It was a welcome return for the event, which returned to fully onside after three years of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Diversity stage features school teams representing cultures from all over the world to share their traditional song and dance. This year’s theme was “Creating One’s Own Destiny” to remind our rangatahi that they have many exciting opportunities ahead of them and that they can choose their own path.
“The Unitec Diversity stage represents the multi-cultural make up of Aotearoa,” says Faloniko Tominiko, Director – Pacific Success.
“It was great to see a number of different cultures represented from right across the globe, Pacific, Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. At the prizegiving, I made the point that despite there being only three placings in each category, there are no losers, because whether you place or not, you are already a winner for representing and promoting your culture. The Unitec stall also presented a positive message of exercise. Overall it was a great return to the Polyfest.”
The Unitec-Te Pukenga stand was a hit among rangatahi, who tried out fitness exercises and competed against the clock on rowing machines, says Event Business Partner Romy Sunny. The person who did the most reps or best reps/score across the four drills could win a $100 voucher from Rebel Sports.
“Some were competitive, while others what to try it for the first time or win the voucher. At first, some ākonga were nervous but then ended up setting benchmarks for the others to beat. Almost everyone walking by our stand wanted to know what it was all about.”
