Architectural practice Warren and Mahoney recently hosted Unitec Architectural Technology students and staff from the School of Building Construction at their Auckland offices in West Pakenham Street.

The practice, which is currently working on projects including the Commercial Bay development on the Auckland waterfront and the new Auckland Convention Centre, put on a great exhibition of models, drawings and virtual reality media for the visiting staff and students.

Over 30 students attended the open studio, where they were treated to tours and talks by Human Resources staff and Architectural Technologists working on current projects.

Architectural Technology Lecturer Malachy McGarrigle said five of our Architectural Technology graduates are currently working at Warren and Mahoney.

“It was particularly pleasing and valuable that these graduates were present to talk and mentor our present students and describe their roles with the company. Through these discussions, current students could see the relevance and value of their studies to potential jobs and the graduate’s advice and comments on their experiences were eagerly received.”

Following the evening, Malachy said the feedback from students, staff and the practice was overwhelmingly positive.

Students and staff attending the Warren and Mahoney open studio evening had the opportunity to talk with staff at the practice, including five employees who are Unitec grads!

“All parties are keen to build on this constructive industry engagement. The School of Building Construction is delighted that such a successful New Zealand architectural practice is supporting Unitec and we’re especially proud that the practice values our graduates so highly and has indicated that they want to recruit more in the future.”
