Environmental & Animal Sciences Seminar Series underway

The Environmental & Animal Sciences pathway is hosting a series of six seminars over the next three months.

The first event is this Monday 6 August and Dr Karen Stockin from Massey University will be presenting on the conservation and welfare aspects of whale strandings.

Dr Stockin is a renowned marine ecologist, director of the Coastal-Marine Research Group and current recipient of the Bob Kerridge Animal Welfare Fellowship.

Dr Kris Descovich, Lecturer in Animal Welfare and Research Leader, who has been involved in organising the programme, says it is truly an honour that she has agreed to come and present her work.

She says the seminars provide an opportunity for students and staff to hear from experts in a diverse range of fields, see how science can make a real world impact, and to network with people in the field outside of Unitec.

“Through networking with other scientists and professionals in animal and conservation science, we’ve found a fantastic range of presenters. And sometimes our own lecturers or students will present, particularly if they have some new research that will be of interest to our students” says Kris.

Seminar 1: Monday 6 August, 1pm in Lecture Theatre B115-1028.
