Advance magazine – Can you imagine life without the internet?

Can you imagine life without the internet? Us neither.

But as data, applications and computing infrastructure become ever more mobile and innovative, so do cyber attackers and their viruses. That’s why cybersecurity is so vital.

In the Summer 2018 issue of Advance, we showcase Unitec’s achievements in cybersecurity research and development over the past seven years. The stories cover Unitec’s role in the multi-million-dollar STRATUS project, cyber-risk education, an innovative disaster recovery program called CRaaSH, and much more.

After 15 years, Advance magazine celebrated it’s final edition in Te Puna on Friday. This publication has been a great tool to showcase our Unitec talent and quality research.

Pictured at the event are Marcus Williams – Director Research & Enterprise and Christian Probst – Director High Technology Transdisciplinary Research Network with Denis Lavrov – Research Leader High Tech Research for the STRATUS project.

Denis was honoured at the event for work on STRATUS, a six-year, $12.2 million project funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

This research project is creating ways to give control back to users of their cloud-stored data, and invigorate our cloud security industry. Denis has developed several prototypes, one of which has been patented and is close to commercialisation with industry partner, Nakicloud.

It was great seeing all of the past copies on display and the evolution of the magazine into its professional and well written last copy.
