A day of disc golf brings the perfect end to a semester spent on Zoom

Students and staff in the Event Leadership class from the new Diploma of Sport, Recreation and Exercise programme enjoyed a day spent together on campus

Students and staff in the Event Leadership class from the new Diploma of Sport, Recreation and Exercise programme, came together last week for a day of disc golf, after two months of online learning.

It was a beautiful day to enjoy being back on campus and put into practice the event management skills the students had been working on all semester.

The disc golf course was set up on the Mt Albert campus rugby fields and in the space behind B048, with equipment and game tuition provided by Disc Golf New Zealand.

Anna Bassett, Lecturer in Sport, said this was the second year the Event Leadership students have organised the disc golf day.

“With the disruption caused by COVID-19 this year, the participants were mostly students, as well as some Bachelor of Sport students and Auckland Council employees who are doing the class to upskill. We appreciated the other staff who joined us including Katie Bruffy, Head of Community Studies and others from Sport, Police and the Sports Centre. We’re hoping to invite more staff along next year.”

Anna said that after lockdown it was so good to get the students back together on campus for this event.

“This was the perfect end to half a semester on Zoom! The energy from the students was fantastic – laughter could be heard echoing from all over the disc golf course. We would love to be able to have this disc golf course permanently set up for students and staff to enjoy! Thank you to discshop.co.nz for providing the equipment.”
