BOYS is a wild, smart, deconstruction of iconic Kiwi play, Foreskin’s Lament. In 1980, the original play challenged audiences to acknowledge the dark side of rampant toxic masculinity.
As a contemporary response, BOYS interrogates the misogyny that is passed-off as casual sexism in the original script. It recontextualises the conversation using blistering verbatim accounts and raw source material from contemporary media. BOYS asks us the painful, urgent questions: “What has changed since 1980?” And more importantly, “What hasn’t?”
