Whakatika Whanonga | Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Policy: Survey closing 12 December

Whakatika Whanonga | Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination Policy: Please review this draft Policy and complete this surveyClosing 12 December 2021.

Why is this Policy being created?

This new policy has been drafted to highlight the importance of supporting a safe learning environment for students free from Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination. This policy reflects Unitec values of Te Noho Kotahitanga, in particular emphasising the need to show Ngākau Mahaki(Respect) towards one another. It is also aimed at informing students of the resolution processes available to address any concerns of this nature.

Furthermore, the Countering Harassment and Bullying procedure was retired in mid-2020, when the new Speak Up process was created for staff. However, this left a gap in process for addressing Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination issues experienced by students. This gap was also highlighted in the Code of Practice self-review which analysed overall institute compliance with the Education (Pastoral Care of Domestic Students) Code of Practice. We aim to create this policy to fill this gap and comply with the new Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International learners) Code of Practice 2021 which will take effect on 1 January 2022.
