Team Unitec powers through the 2021 Bike Challenge

Well done to Team Unitec in this year’s Aotearoa Bike Challenge!

With COVID lockdowns disrupting so many events around Auckland, the Bike Challenge was a great option for those who wanted to take part in an event in their own time and bubble, throughout February.

‘Bike Champion’ Udara Wickramasinghe, Senior Administrator in our Enrolment Processing team led the charge this year, with support from our Wellbeing and Sustainability team. Udara invited staff to be part of ‘Team Unitec’ and cheered the team on throughout the challenge.

Quick stats:

  • 57 wonderful people were riding for Team Unitec this year
  • 26 new riders joined challenge in 2021
  • Team Unitec cycled a massive 4600+ kms during the four-week period
  • Our team came 10th place in 500-2000 staff category in Auckland
  • We had 2 winners:

> Howard Norton from Bridgepoint won a Storm Trooper Men’s Waterproof Shell (valued at $349)

> Sanjeev Kumar Vellore from our School of Applied Business – won a mixed case of kombucha from GoodBuzz! (Valued at $40)
