Year of the Ox welcomed with shared lunch, activities and a winning team

Grace Zhang and Melody Hao kick off the Year of the Ox at Unitec.

Chinese New Year kicked off at Unitec last week as staff and students at both campuses welcomed in the Year of the Ox with delicious vegetarian food and fun activities, all enthusiastically enjoyed by Unitec whānau!

The event was organised by the Student Success-International Team and Student Events Team, with our international students in mind, who may have been unable to travel home to be with their family due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The team organised a range of activities and served delicious (and very popular!) vegetarian food. Other activities included a chopsticks competition, Chinese lucky knot making and mandarin lessons.

The competition to win a $50.00 morning tea voucher for ‘Best Team Photo’ was taken out by Women at Unitec Team, for their lovely themed photo, complete with props!

A beautiful lunch of vegetarian Chinese delicacies was shared by the guests

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou to programme student Jenny Ding and her friends who volunteered to make the plant-based food for the Mt Albert event, and the Student Success-International Team and Student Events Team for the huge effort they put in to create a special event for those who are far from home.
