Each year our School of Trades and Services and the School of Building Construction run their own Excellence Awards Dinner event to celebrate our students’ achievements and to acknowledge business partners, employers, sponsors, as well as Industry Advisory Boards, for their commitment and support. Bringing these groups together supports kaitiakitanga; developing a community of professional building practitioners to strengthen industry collaboration, share knowledge and build networks.
The team is grateful to have their event fully sponsored by their partners, who we have been onboard since they established the annual Awards event more than four years ago, and includes Hawkins, Jasmax and Marley.
This year’s ceremony was held earlier this month at Sorrento in the Park (thank you again to the sponsors!), with School of Trades and Services Lecturer, Leni Fifita performing the MC role – a great talent to have to engage and host our guests.
The keynote speaker was renowned sport broadcaster and ‘voice of the America’s Cup’, Peter Montgomery – a great speaker to hear from, just in time for the launch of the America’s Cup practice sessions next week on the Waitemata harbour and then the main event in 2021!
Both Lee Baglow, Head of Trades and Services, and Paul Jeurissen, Head of Building Construction, were involved in the formalities, making the Award presentations to the winning students, as well as thanking business partners and sponsors for their continued support through the challenges of 2020.
A big thank you to the ‘organising committee’ who create and manage this very successful event – Trudy Vinkenvleugel, Inger Andersen Leni Fifita and David Wix. Your mahi is truly appreciated.
