Our Cyber Guy
Meet Rie Dodsworth from our IT team. He’s a man with eclectic interests, including cracking safes, dowsing (divining ground water), cooking, riding horses, reading lots of books and travelling – in fact he’s worked in 12 different countries!
But over the next few months, you’re going to get to know him as our Cyber Guy!
Rie has extensive experience in cybersecurity and is here to help you to be secure in your online activity, whether that’s online shopping, banking, or working here at Unitec.

Some tips from Rie: Basic cybersecurity
- Who walks around where you work? Is the content on your computer screen sensitive? Think about locking your screen when you leave your desk.
- A quick tip to make your password harder to guess, and to meet those pesky requirements for a capital, a number and a symbol. Put an A1! or similar at the beginning and end of the password – then you can remember it easily and it will be harder to crack!
- Do you have a gmail account or similar? Many of these services offer you the facility to store documents securely in the cloud. Back-up your photos in the cloud so you’ll never lose them, even if you lose your phone or camera
