Our health centre offers support to community with flu vaccinations

Our health centre, Te Puna Waiora, has stepped up to support the wider West Auckland community by ensuring other medical centres and retirement villages in the area have enough flu vaccinations for their high-risk patients.

We had ordered nearly four times the amount of our usual flu vaccinations this year in anticipation of increased demand, and in line with Government directives, have been able to share our supplies with the local community to ensure the needs of all high-risk groups are prioritised.

Once the lockdown is over and the campus re-opens, staff who are not deemed high-risk will be able to book into Te Puna Waiora for their annual flu vaccinations. Please watch The Nest for further updates.

Any high-risk patients among our staff should contact Te Puna Waiora directly. For a definition of ‘high risk groups’, please go to the Fight the flu website to see if you meet the criteria, before you make contact with our health centre.

Wondering if those of us in healthcare are also being considered as a priority group this year?

Morena Samantha, yes if you’re working in a healthcare setting then you are in the priority group for flu vaccinations so that you don’t pass it on to more vulnerable people. Do call us if you are doing this work and need the vaccination. We currently have only a limited quantity of the vaccine, therefore it is only available to high needs patients who meet the criteria. As staff should not be coming onto campus, you do need to call first to see if you qualify, then you will be given an appointment time and a car consult will take place in front of Te Puna. The website linked above has more detailed information about the high needs criteria.
