Team Unitec takes on ‘Round the Bays’

Last Sunday’s ‘Round the Bays’ event saw 29,000 people stretching their legs around Tamaki Drive to complete the 10km run or walk. A group of Unitec staff was part of the crowd, enjoying the sun and comradery of this impressive event.

This year, Unitec’s Sustainability and Wellbeing team supported staff to get involved by providing a t shirt and an after-event BBQ and chill-out space. Thirty-two people from a variety of teams, some with their whānau in tow, participated on the day.

With so many participants, there was a lot of ducking and dodging – it’s not really the time to aim for a personal best time – but what a great event that brings people from different cultures, workplaces and abilities together in one spectacular mass of colour and pride.

Just after the start line – it was busy!

The funds raised this year went to four different charities.

Maja Zidov and Helen Polley from the Sustainability and Wellbeing team hosted the Unitec post-event hospitality tent, which featured delicious fruit drinks, vege sausages, burgers with all the trimmings, and an array of fresh fruit. Most importantly, a place to relax, with some shade and some bean bags to sit on for the well-deserving runners and walkers.

Well done to everyone who took part, you did us proud.

Had an awesome time with my Unitec colleagues. Hope to see more of us next year in #RTB2021. Many thanks to Helen and Maja for organising everything for us.
