Enhanced Unitec external website will be easier to use

Over the last few months our marketing team has been hard at work making enhancements to our external Unitec website in order to make it easier to use.

Earlier this year new search functionality and improved security was rolled out. This month the key focus will be on the main menu/navigation and homepage. Then the marketing team will look at further enhancements, focusing on career and study options, and programme pages.

Why are we making updates?

This first stage of enhancements are a result of various workshops, reviews, student and staff feedback, as well as expert advice from our digital partners at Sparks Interactive on ‘pain points’ for users. This feedback showed that it was hard to find what you need and that the homepage didn’t have a lot of useful information.

These updates will ultimately improve accessibility for our community, offering the same ability to engage with, participate and use our website, as well as improve people’s experience.

The ‘new look’ home page for our external website, coming soon…!

What are the updates, and when are they happening?

The updates will be rolled out across the website in early September and include changes to the layout of the homepage, and the main menu.

The homepage layout updates will improve our ability to highlight who we are at Unitec and what we offer. We’ll be able to feature Subject areasand important messages, as well as a search bar, which will address what audiences are looking for.

The updated main menu will make it easier to jump to different pages as the navigation will open into a drop-down list. It also ensures that you can always easily find the study options section of the website.

What are the next steps?

This first stage just focused on the main menu and homepage but there are flow on effects that will be addressed in future developments, which may include:

  • Reviewing the career and study options, and programme pages
  • Further photography optimisation

Marketing really appreciates all the help from or IMS web team, our students and staff, and other key stakeholders for their support in this project. They also welcome your feedback on this mahi – please send your ideas and comments to marketing@unitec.ac.nz.
