Flag a shuttle – save on commuting costs and avoid the traffic!

We’ve made some changes to our campus shuttle service – you can now flag our shuttle down anywhere on Mt Albert campus on their campus loop, and peak time, morning and afternoon runs to Mt Albert train station and Pt Chev shops.

Our recent staff travel survey revealed that 78% of our staff get to Unitec by car! So if you had thought about using public transport to get to work, but you’ve been put off by the walk between campus and the train station or bus stop, perhaps the shuttle will make this easier for you?

We care about our people and our environment, so we want to ensure you know that there are alternative transport options to consider, either on occasion or regularly. We’ve been supporting this with a few different initiatives including getting the OnzO hire bikes on campus, providing an e-bike finance deal and coming up soon is another free HOP card trial. These are all ways to provide you with more sustainable, less stressful and cheaper ways to commute, or to just get more active.

Shuttle route and hours – X marks the route

Look out for the orange X signs on the pavement across Mt Albert campus for the route. And save this map, or print a couple, so it’s always handy for you and your colleagues.

The shuttle runs all day on the campus loop and you can flag it down anytime and anywhere along the route. During the peak commuting period, the shuttle does an anticlockwise loop to Mt Albert train station and Pt Chev shops every 20 mins. Peak times for the commute loop are –

  • 7.30am – 8.45am
  • 3.00pm – 4.45pm

The driver does a minimum of three pick-ups from the Mt Albert station and Pt Chev shops in the morning. If you have just missed the shuttle, based on the 20 minute loop, the maximum waiting period will be 20 minutes.

Shuttle off-site pick-up’s

  • Mt Albert train station – look for the van on the corner of Carrington Road and Willcott Street (next to The Lodge Cafe)
  • Pt Chev shops – Outside KFC on Great North Road

Shuttle on-site pick-up’s

There’s a covered stop by B112 and B001, or signal the driver anywhere along the route and the driver will stop (at the closest and safest stopping point).

Mt Albert – Waitakere shuttle timetable

And just a reminder, the shuttle runs regularly between Mt Albert and Waitakere. You’ll find the shuttle timetable on the Nest – go to the Nest > Services > Goods & Transport > Shuttle bus timetable.

Kia ora, You pick up from Mt Roskill train station (see Shuttle off-site pick-up’s)?

Hey Helen very good catch. Indeed it is meant to say ‘Mt Albert train station’.

    hi
So the shuttle will now drop us at the train station after work? This is a very positive change if this is indeed the case.

You’ve said the shuttle has a covered stop outside 112, yet the map doesn’t show the shuttle travelling that section of road?

This is a fantastic initiative, and so proud to see it in action. We know loads of staff live fairly local to Unitec, but bring the car because of trying to get around campus during the day. So this might provide some people with the freedom they need to leave the car at home, and hop the free shuttle across campus to meetings.
That little bit of activity in the day is good for heart health, mental health and for the environment. Go Unitec!!!

Kia ora Laura, we’ve been given the correct map now which shows the 112 stop, so the post and map have now been updated.

Yes it is. It used to be run like that for a while now but communication was mainly aimed at students. So the last shuttle departing campus is at 4.45pm from bus stop in front of building 112 – it will move anticlockwise (just like it will do in the morning) and drop people off to train station first and then to Pt Chevalier shops.
In the morning, it’s first departure is at 7.30am from train station. It will also follow anticlock wise route and go up to pick up people from the buses and then enter through gate 1 into campus.
