Last week was Graduation, a very special day for our students – a milestone that they’ve worked hard for and you’ve worked hard to support them!
It was also an amazing team effort with over 60 staff members volunteering on the day, from assisting with marshalling and hyping up 1,200 students before each ceremony, to presenting their certificates on stage.
It’s a powerful day to be part of and also a great opportunity to remind us of why we’re here and to celebrate our students’ success.
This year we moved Graduation from the Town Hall to the Aotea Centre providing a much larger venue. Our grads were able to invite
more family and friends to celebrate with them than at previous graduations – one of the most important things for our grads on their big day. The new venue allowed a lot more space for them to celebrate their graduation afterwards and get the all-important family photos.
For the second year in a row we performed a Haka Pohiri which got an outstanding response from everyone. Check out all the pictures on our Facebook page (and there’s more to be posted later this week).
Our Chief Executive Alastair Carruthers commented that he felt very proud of everyone involved, saying “This was more than an event. If anyone ever wants to taste Unitec’s secret sauce they just need to come to a graduation. Each ceremony had its own personality, but all four were moving, charming, respectful, celebratory and memorable. The Aotea Centre was brimming over with diversity and talent”.
A big thank you to everyone involved in making this key event such a success!
