Unitec hosts annual 2018 Drama New Zealand Conference

This weekend we’re hosting the annual 2018 Drama New Zealand Conference, 13-16 April. Our third year acting students will be making a special appearance at the event, performing scenes from a New Zealand play, directed by guest lecturer Elena Stejko, as part of the overall four-day programme.

John Davies, Senior Lecturer Creative Industries and Alexandra Whitham, Voice Lecturer Creative Industries, are involved in a workshop discussions about ‘the teaching of text and acting technique at Unitec’, alongside Elena Stejko, and renowned New Zealand actor Elizabeth Hawthorne.

This annual event is attended by drama teachers from secondary schools around the country and the conference theme is He ngākau ngahau – a joyful heart, so the focus will be on the joy of teaching drama, with the theme of ‘having fun in the classroom, playing, play, creativity, engaging with joy in our hearts’!

This partnership with Drama New Zealand is a great opportunity for us to position ourselves as a tertiary provider of choice in performing arts.

Our guests will be given a formal welcome at Te Noho Kotahitanga marae on Saturday morning.
