Unitec lecturers star in new TV ad campaign

Check out Unitec Music lecturers Age Pryor and Chris O’Connor in Trustpower’s new TV ad campaign.

Trustpower4The ad was broadcast for the first time on Sunday and features four musicians learning and performing a song, which Age wrote for the campaign. Unusually, the song is built on musical loops created by the band members in real time, using controllers that Age designed and made especially for the project.

Trustpower approached Age as a recognised NZ musician and together they developed the concept and Age invited other musicians he’s worked with to be part of it. Alongside Age and Chris are Laughton Kora (who has been a guest lecturer here) and Emma Eden (french horn player with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra).

Age said that it’s important for our students to see that their lecturers remain current and connected to industry, and that their skills are in demand. “This type of external project gives me an interesting case study to share with students about the process of getting commercial work, writing to a brief and the technology we used to bring the ad to life.”

Trustpower3Trustpower marketing manager Carolyn Schofield said: “We asked Age to write us a song that helped to convey the key thought behind the campaign: how by bringing together energy and broadband services, Trustpower saves you time and makes your life easier. We wanted to include instruments that you would not necessarily expect to hear together, but when combined, they create something amazing. Age then suggested that we could incorporate looping into the track, and it all helped to communicate the idea that when you are with Trustpower, you can take it easy.

Trustpower1Age has been fantastic to work with on this project. He has written us a beautiful song and together we’ve produced some advertising that we think is something special.”

Age has released his song ‘We’ve Got the Time’ on Apple and Spotify in parallel with the launch of the ad campaign.
