About us

Growing a community and culture of success – Learning, teaching and research

Located in Te Puna – B180 (just inside the entrance on the left, when you enter Te Puna from the courtyard), we provide:

  • Academic and pastoral support for Pacific students from Certificate to Post Graduate programmes
  • Professional development workshops for staff on understanding the Pacific learner and Pacific cultures of learning; provide guest lecturing on Pacific related topics or issues
  • Support in embedding Pacific knowledge, values and practices in the curricula
  • Collaborate with staff and departments on research projects involving Pacific peoples in New Zealand and in the Pacific
  • Engages with Pacific communities in the Auckland region
  • Strong links with Pacific networks and Pacific communities in both New Zealand and in the Pacific islands
  • Pacific Student events-Pacific Orientation, Fanau Evening, Pacific Graduation Dinner, writing retreats

Our Vision

To support and enhance student participation, progression and completion equal to mainstream student achievement by 2020.

That the Unitec curriculum reflects the community that it serves by adding Pacific dimensions into current curricula and employs Pacific peoples to reflect their student population.

Ensure that Unitec is responsive to the Pacific community, enabling access and informed processes in which to engage deliver and collaborate to increase Pacific capability.

Our Purpose

The Pacific Centre for Learning Teaching and Research will work across Unitec faculties, programmes, departments and staff to increase the knowledge, understanding and skills of their Pacific students and the Pacific community.

Objectives

  1. Increase Pacific participation and perspectives in governance and operational decision making within Unitec.
  2. Develop, enhance and maintain relationships with Pacific communities.
  3. Ensure successful Pacific student engagement, completion and progression within Unitec programmes.
  4. Contribute to the relevance of Unitec programmes to Pacific communities.
