Join us for an unforgettable evening of movement, storytelling, and artistry at SHOWCASE 2025 from 13-16 November at Te Pou Theatre.
The evening begins with “Te Ata Kura” by Louise Pōtiki Bryant, a tribute to the deep connection with rākau, particularly the Pōhutukawa, a Rākau Rangatira. This piece, inspired by the rhythms of te taiao, is a collaboration with all 31 contemporary dance ākonga and features an original score by Paddy Free.
Next, experience “YO/友” by Xin Ji, a celebration of the messy and golden friendships that shape us. Performed by Year 1 and 2 ākonga, this piece showcases their vibrant energy and dynamic physicality, informed by Xin’s own dance training experiences.
The evening concludes with “[revel]” by Tori Manley-Tapu and Aloali’i Tapu, a gathering of laughter, grief, and resistance. Choreographed to an original sound score by Samara Alofa, “[revel]” celebrates the graduating class of 2025 and embraces those whose futures are stolen, whose lands and loves are under siege, and whose voices we carry forward.
With stunning Lighting Design by Jo Kilgour and Costume Design by Gracie Lewis, SHOWCASE 2025 promises another evening of remarkable dance.
