“Ngā Pū Kōrero ō Āpōpō” translates to “Future Voices” and is a national Māori speech competition presented by the Māori Women’s Welfare League. It provides a platform for young Māori (rangatahi) to express themselves in te reo Māori (Māori language) and share their perspectives on various topics; tell their stories, share their views about important kaupapa and enhance their sense of pride, wellbeing and confidence through owning the stage. The competition aims to foster confidence in te reo Māori and strengthen connections within the community.

The competition is structured with junior, intermediate, and senior categories for both boys and girls, with winners from regional events progressing to the national competition held during the Māori Women’s Welfare League’s national conference. Ngā Pū Kōrero o Āpōpō is a key event for developing future Māori leaders and orators.
There are six age group sections ranging from 10-18. The finalists for each section will go on to compete in the national Ngā Pū Kōrero ō Apōpō competition at the National MWWL Annual Conference to be held October 2nd 2025, at Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Te Rangi Āniwaniwa, 322 Quarry Road, Awanui, Kaitaia.

Unitec is proud to be hosting the Auckland Regional Finals on 24 July at Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae.

Kaimahi are welcome to attend and watch.
