Unitec hosts Fiji schoolboy rugby teams

The Marist Brothers High School under 17 and under 18 schoolboy rugby teams were given a warm pōwhiri welcome on to Te Noho Kotahitanga marae on Wednesday, 7 May.

They are here on a two-week tour of New Zealand playing secondary schools in Auckland and Hamilton.

The teams were given a short tour of the Mt Albert campus and hosted for lunch by Unitec’s Fijian staff members.

Automotive lecturer Sefanaia Naqama who organised their visit to Unitec said the boys were very interested in Unitec’s course offerings and enjoyed looking around Mataaho and observing our students in trades and automotive.

Marist Brothers High School is a Roman Catholic all-boys’ high school situated in Fiji’s capital, Suva. It was founded in 1946 by the order of Marist Brothers, which has had a presence in Fiji since 1844. The school is widely recognised for its sporting excellence having produced many national representatives in athletics and rugby over the years.

Thank you Unitec for the warm welcome and Powhiri to the boys and staff of Marist Brothers High School. As an Old Boy of the school I’m proud and honoured to meet them at UPC,
