One of our two teams from Unitec’s School of Building Construction were joint winners in the NZ Institute of Building (NZIOB) bowls tournament held last week at the Mt Eden Bowling Club.
The Northern Regional Committee of the NZIOB has hosted the ‘welcome back to work’ bowls event for members and company colleagues for the past three years, attracting a wide range of entries from across the industry.
This is the first time that one of Unitec’s SOBC team entries has won the popular competition. They were tied for first place with Dominion Construction.
The victorious team, made up of Academic Programme Manager Kamuka Pati and lecturers Tina Martin, Richard Eriksen and Malachy McGarrigle. They are all bowls rookies, and commented on the relaxed, friendly vibe and chance to socialise with industry contacts.
Unitec Associate Professor and NZIOB Northern Regional Committee member Linda Kestle says, “We’ve had strong connections with the NZIOB for many years, supporting our programmes and projects, and this is a great way for our staff to network with others in our industry and have some fun trying their hand at bowls.”
She says Unitec will definitely be up to defend the title in 2026 😊.
Well done all for your contribution to this article
