Hauora celebrated at inaugural quiz night

Unitec’s TEU branch representatives got together recently for their first Quizaders Quest event, hosted by Vaotui Seulupe Dr Falaniko Tominiko (Niko), former director of Pacific Success at Unitec.

Five teams took part, including an invitation team from the University of Auckland. Participants answered questions on categories including superheroes and villains; law and justice; leadership; champions; and unity. The ice-breaker questions at the start focused on women’s suffrage.

Unitec Health & Wellbeing lecturer and TEU Union delegate Sailauama Cheryl Talamaivao, who organised the quiz, says the evening was a great success with lots of laughter, a bit of karaoke and some great food.

“We cheered when we won and we cheered when we lost!” says Cheryl. “We had a great time letting off some steam. Our Quizmaster was supreme, even if he did tell Pauline to stop putting people off the answers!”

“It was a great opportunity for our staff to get together and relax against the backdrop of Mental Health Awareness Week,” said Unitec Branch President Senior Lecturer, Dr Wei Yuen Loo.

“Our wellness and our hauora is all-important as staff experience the challenges of the current transition and times of uncertainty.

“We acknowledge everyone who supported our Quizaders Quest, including our Executive Director, Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga and Quizmaster Niko.”

The next Quizaders Quest event will focus on linguistics and will be held later next month. For any Union members interested in joining, please contact Sailauama Cheryl Talamaivao on email ctalamaivao@unitec.ac.nz

Fa’afetai lava for organising the evening Cheryl, it was so much fun. I haven’t laughed like that for a long time. even if I didn’t know most of the answers!
Fa’afetai Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga for sharing about your Grandmother for woman’s suffrage.
It was a privilege to be there.
Don’t miss out next time, everyone welcome!
