Kaimahi Kōrero events: Themes from Q&A

Peseta and Toa identified the below themes from the Kaimahi Kōrero events held across Rohe 1 (online and in-person). For more Q&A, please visit Te Whare.

Decision from the disestablishment consultation

Almost 500 pieces of feedback were received from kaimahi during consultation of Tāraia te anamata | Creating our futures. Most of the feedback related to people’s individual employment situations, ranging from operational feedback about individual business divisions, to queries about remuneration and benefits and feedback about morale and organisational culture.

Last week, many kaimahi across Rohe 1 should have received an individual decision letter which confirmed what the consultation decisions meant for them, and next steps in the process.

If you haven’t received a letter, and you think you should have, please connect with your PCW representative.

Structure of the future state post disestablishment

The Government is still determining what the vocational education industry will look like, and we anticipate the process will take time and careful consideration.

The Minister’s Letter of Expectations indicates a move away from centralisation towards regionally based, individual institutions. We anticipate there will be an opportunity to provide feedback about what the Government proposes as part of the select committee process.

We appreciate many people are experiencing change fatigue after going through a prolonged period of reform and uncertainty. The Minister has indicated she favours making this transition in the shortest time practicable.

In the meantime, let’s keep doing what we do best – providing great learning opportunities and support to our ākonga, and changing their lives through education.

Future of Unified programs

Te Pūkenga Executive Leadership Team is supporting the Council to provide a disestablishment plan to the Minister. Once this is confirmed, we will be able to provide further guidance about what work will continue, and what will stop.

Delegations Policy

Te Pūkenga Council met to considers our Delegations Policy, which has been revised in light of the Minister’s Letter of Expectations to provide for greater regional and divisional decision-making. The new delegations policy has been approved, giving us more local and regional decision-making authority with our budgets.

Resourcing and Budget Constraints

With the approval of the delegations policy, we will have greater regional decision-making, giving us room to manage resourcing at a divisional level. We will look to streamline processes such as business cases, however, we must continue our focus on savings. Our funding strategy is a focus area for our Senior Leadership Team over the next few months.
