Peace Hikoi to honour the past and promote hope for the future

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Peace Hikoi today organised by Ricky Waters –Coordinator Chaplaincy, the Multi-faith Team – Student Wellbeing, and facilitated by the Unitec Spirituality Oversight, Advocacy, and Reference Group (SOAR).

The event commemorated the 5th anniversary of the Christchurch Mosque attack. This solemn occasion honoured the memory of the 51 lives lost and the 40 individuals injured, while fostering a spirit of unity and peace. 

Matua Hare led the Karakia and the hikoi moved to the Memorial Grove where an Olive tree was planted in memory of those affected by serves as a poignant symbol of remembrance. Representatives from various religious communities offered readings and prayers.

Let us honour the past while promoting peace and understanding for the future.
