Here are a few options to build into your weekly schedule and add to your active lifestyle.
Wellness initiatives at Waitākere
As with most things, finding the time and day that suits most people is tricky business. But we want to keep trying to figure it out anyway. Please, could all staff working at Waitakere, take a look at this form? You can use it to select specific initiatives that you would be keen to attend, and our Wellbeing Manager will follow up with interest groups for each initiative to find the time and day that suits the majority. If we do get a minimum required for each class, the classes will start the week of 23rd October
Exercise Lab @ Mt Albert campus
The small but mighty gym in B111 is well equipped and has four zones – the circuit machines, cardio, weights as well as gear needed for fitness classes. The Exercise Lab is first and foremost a teaching space, accessible to staff outside class timetabled slots. To reflect this, the cost is $4 per week, pre-paid for a semester ($36 for the remaining weeks of 2023). This will help cover the costs of cleaning, new equipment and resources over time. Badminton @ YMCA Mt Albert
Monday, 4.30pm – 6.00pm
Thanks to Hung Ngo, our Operations Manager, badminton is hands down, the longest standing wellness initiative at Unitec. We have booked eight weekly sessions at YMCA, from 2 Oct – 27th Nov 2023. Subsidised rate is $30 for the remaining weeks. Since spaces are limited, this $30 payment will get you onto the mailing list that will receive a weekly prompt to RSVP to the upcoming session. Yoga class @ Te Noho Kotahitanga whare
Tuesday, 7.45am – 8.30am, starting 17 October
Dewi facilitates a progressive style of yoga accessible to all levels. Drawing on the knowledge gained as an osteopath student at Unitec, you can be assured that if you have any physical concerns they can be addressed, and adaptions can be made to accommodate you and your body. The cost is $40 for eight sessions. This eight-week programme will go from 17th October – 5th December. See payment instructions at the bottom of this post.
Pilates
Wednesday and Thursday mornings @ Mt Albert Campus. Time TBC
With over 15 years of being a professional belly dancer, Irina understands the importance of strong and flexible core muscles. Her Pilates classes are dynamic and each session has it’s own flow. Currently we have two staff interested in each of the two days and we need minimum 5 staff to get it going. It would be a 45min session and the cost would be $21 for a 7 week programme. We have some flexibility for when exactly we start and finish Wednesday and Thursday mornings. So please, if you are keen, email connect@unitec.ac.nz and specify which day would work best for you.
