Unitec ākonga impress at Business and IT Industry Connect Event

Building Strong Ties!

Unitec’s Business and IT Connect event took place last week, showcasing the strong ties between the institute and industry, proving the format’s effectiveness in bringing together ākonga and employers, while creating valuable connections with industry.

The Connect events are an effective means of bridging the gap between students and employers, says Shani Sauerman, Senior Industry Partner from Unitec’s Industry Workforce team.

“What a success! The event had keen participation from both ākonga and companies and showcased our commitment to nurturing future professionals while meeting the demands of the business and IT sectors. As Unitec-Te Pūkenga builds its ties with industry, students can look forward to even more opportunities to connect, learn, and grow in their chosen fields.

Shani expressed her delight at the praise from attending businesses.

“Exhibiting employers across the board communicated that Unitec ākonga were impressive, future-focused and knew their stuff. With more than 100 students in attendance and some incredible organisations joining us on campus, Business and IT Connect 2023 was a great testament to Unitec’s strong ties with industry, and the dedication of our ākonga to making the most of the opportunities on offer.”

Great to see that Tax & Trust in the lineup. Several semesters ago, we had an accounting student who did his Internship Based Learning (30 credits) with Tax & Trust, and it ended with the student getting employed by Tax & Trust – a great outcome.

Kia ora Mary – that’s the kind of journey we hope to keep supporting. Tax & Trust are fantastic!
