Pink Shirt Day – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!

Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora!

Every year, one in five workers in Aotearoa report being bullied in the workplace. By taking part in Pink Shirt Day, you will be helping to raise awareness and prevent bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusion.

Our Unitec Code of Conduct: Ngā Tikanga Whakahaere confirms our commitment to creating and sustaining an environment free from bullying, harassment, discrimination, and other poor behaviors. Key to living this commitment is creating a safe environment where people can confidently ‘Speak up’ about any concerns knowing they will be treated respectfully and fairly. Our Speak Up Process is a comprehensive guide on what bullying and harassment looks like and how to raise any concerns.

Here’s some ways you can get involved and support this important cause anytime during the week of 15 to 19 May:

  • Dress in Pink: pink shirt week. Dress up in anything pink and/or purchase a Pink Shirt Day tee (100% of the profits go to the Mental Health Foundation).  We’d love to see a photo of the best dressed team up on the Te Aka intranet. Send your pics to safety@unitec.ac.nz.
  • Team Bake Sale/Morning Tea: Get your team together for a shared morning tea with some yummy baked pink goodies. Raise awareness and sell the baking for a gold coin donation.
  • Bullying Prevention Webinar: Tune into a free Zoom webinar on Friday 19 May at 11am to hear from leading experts in workplace wellbeing/health and safety, mental health, and diversity and equity in Aotearoa. Register here.
  • Teams Background: Brighten up your video calls and raise awareness on Pink Shirt Day by using one of our pink backgrounds.
