On Saturday 1 October 2022 Unitec formally became Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.
However, day to day we will trade as and be known as Unitec
Detail on our new name
- Day to day we will still be ‘Unitec’, or ‘Unitec, part of Te Pūkenga’. This is what most of us will continue to say and use on a day to day basis
- In everyday conversations, it is a good idea use ‘Unitec, part of Te Pūkenga’ OR ‘Unitec, a business division of Te Pūkenga’ to introduce us, so people are aware that we are part of the new national institute, then you can revert to ‘Unitec’ for the remainder of the conversation/email.
- We are no longer ‘Unitec Institute of Technology’ or ‘Unitec New Zealand’.
- On legal documents (contracts, agreements) we will be Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology Trading as Unitec.
- Our formal (legal entity) name is Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.

Co-branding continues until April 2023
Alongside continuing to use ‘Unitec’ as our day to day name, we are continuing the period of cobranding through until 31 March 2023.

Finance and IT updates
A working group from across the organisation has been powering through changes so we were ready for the 1 October change.
Some examples of the work covered included:
- Contacting suppliers with details of administrative changes: purchase orders, invoices, payments, new GST number, bank account details, NZ business number, existing contracts transition under the same terms.
- Updating EFTPOS machine receipts, online credit card payment portal, name and brand changes on receipts, invoices, payslips etc.
- Adding co-branding to online portals.
- Removing our board information from the website, and updating details for: our leadership team , information for suppliers , paying your fees.
