Kato (badges)

A basket woven from coconut leaves to carry foodThis Kato is a Fijian basket thatched from young coconut leaves. As the leaves mature and turn brown they get stronger and can last for a very long time. These baskets helped people transport food between the village farms and the village bure’s or homes among many other things. Like the Niuean Kato The term is used here as a symbolic basket for PD badges that act as enablers for academic staff in the teaching competency “Create Learner-Centred Environments”. When the Kato (basket) is full of wisdom it can be transported back to the village (classrooms) to be shared with students

The teaching Pacific learners badge supports a lecturer to: Explore teaching approaches that will enhance the experience of Pacific learners.
