NZCB Apprentice Challenge regional taken out by Unitec student

On Saturday ten building students from across Auckland and north, competed in the New Zealand Certified Builders Apprentice Challenge regionals, held at MOTAT. Our involvement was led by Lenisiloti Fifta, our Carpentry Liaison Officer and ITaBS Manager for Building, Construction & Services.

The pathway was super proud to have their entrant win these Northern regionals – Robert Piutau, who is a current student, Maori & Pasifika Trades Training Scholarship recipient and ITaBs apprentice.

All competitors were tasked with building a project for a specific end user within eight hours, to plans provided by NZCB. For this event it was a children’s playhouse.

Robert won a Makita Skillsaw kit and also goes through to the National finals in May. A big congratulations to Robert and the carpentry team and good luck for the Nationals!

The Challenge is open to apprentices employed by NZCB builders or enrolled with ITAB.

Had the pleasure of doing the Carpentry course with Robert a couple of years ago and he a great ambassador for Unitec and ITabs. Wishing Robert all the best in the finals.
