Friday saw a karakia take place to mark the completion of Stage four of Building 108. It’s a wonderful milestone to reach and it means electrical engineering ākonga will start the new semester in the facility.
Susan Bennett, Head of School Computing and Electrical Engineering says: “We are excited to return to our repurposed space in building 108. The space looks great and we know our kaimahi and ākonga will really enjoy their mahi in this area. We are very grateful to everyone that has worked on the project, which has been completed during the very difficult Covid years. We all managed the challenges of the project with the wairua of our Te Noho Kotahitanga values at heart. We would like to particularly acknowledge Mirjana Bogosanovic, APM in our School, who has been a tireless champion for the repurposed space.”
Painting and decorating apprentices doing courses under the BCITO will follow later in the semester once final fit-outs are completed, says Lee Baglow, HoS Trades and Services.
“The words ‘world-class’ are often bandied about but we are delighted with the new facility – it really is world class and we are looking forward to seeing the work the new ākonga will produce in this inspiring and innovative space,” says Lee.
Jaala Jacobs from Property Projects says it was a wonderful to be part of the karakia as the building upgrade moves towards completion.” We thank all those who have continued to support the project to get this stage across the line, from the executive leadership team, the steering group Michelle Teirney and Chris King, to the project and the Infrastructure team Tom Nimmo, Andy Brien, Hung Ngo, Tim Waddell, Kenny Leong, Shiu Verma, Bill Dobbin, Johnnie Yoon, Untaka Cai, Shar Lewin, Lisa Martin. We look forward to the delivery of Stage 5 Creative Industries for ākonga in Semester two.”
The New Facility:
As a new student to study the Certificate of Automotive Engineering, our lecturer Caleb took us to have tour around these new facilities, they are amazing and fantastic…I feel very cool to study here in Unitec, thanks to your all organzing these for us, very appreciated ! 🙂
