Stronger Together: Learning & Teaching Symposium

Designing for better learner and employer outcomes

Now that ITPs, ITO’s and WBL are united as Te Pūkenga, it’s time to build on what we each do well and what can be improved through kōrero and closer collaboration.
We’ll reflect on the evolving role and identity of the Kaiako-teacher-trainer, how we will integrate our mahi across the parts of the organisational chart and across modes of learning, and discuss how we can make learning practical, work-based and authentic (meaningful).

On Friday 17th February (12.30pm – 4pm) Unitec will host a half day symposium where you will hear from Te Pūkenga DCE level as well as from ITOs and those in campus-based VET, and engage with one another so we generate new ways of thinking about meaningful, authentic learning we can put into practice in 2023.

Highlights include:

  • Keynote address: Andrew McSweeney, Te Pūkenga DCE Learner and Employer Experience and Attraction
  • Panel: industry speakers (Competent, Service IQ, BCITO) and expert teachers sharing their experience of best practice vocational learning. What can we learn from one another?
  • Presentation: the emerging professional identity of the vocational Kaiako
  • Your choice of six facilitated discussions (choose two) about what Te Pūkenga’s Whiria Te Ako (Learning and Teaching Framework) sets as guidelines for “practical, work-based, authentic” learning.
